Jang Won-young Faces Requests for Condolences on SNS Following the Tragic Death of Kim Ha-neul
The tragic death of Kim Ha-neul, a young girl who was a devoted fan of Jang Won-young from IVE, has sparked an outpouring of requests for condolences on Jang Won-young's social media.
On February 11, authorities reported that Kim Ha-neul was found fatally stabbed in an elementary school audiovisual room in Daejeon. Despite efforts to revive her with CPR, she passed away later that evening. The perpetrator was a 40-year-old teacher, who was also found at the scene.
Kim Ha-neul was known to be an avid fan of Jang Won-young, and upon hearing of the news, IVE sent flowers and photo cards as a token of condolence. Her father shared in an interview that his daughter loved watching Jang Won-young on TV, always ensuring to watch her shows live. He also mentioned that Kim Ha-neul's dream was to meet Jang Won-young.
Since the news of her passing, numerous fans have commented on Jang Won-young's Instagram posts, asking for her to send a message to Kim Ha-neul in honor of her. Some fans expressed their wishes by saying things like, "Please say something to Kim Ha-neul" or "Pray for her."
However, there has been some backlash against these requests. Critics pointed out that while IVE had already shown their condolences, it may not be appropriate for Jang Won-young to personally respond, especially on social media, where it is a personal space. Some voices argue that Jang Won-young, who is still in her early 20s, should not be burdened with this responsibility, especially considering the seriousness of the case.
As of now, Jang Won-young and IVE have not made any public statements beyond their initial gesture of condolence. The situation continues to raise questions about balancing the public's desire for emotional responses and respecting personal boundaries.
